Trail Peaches ("we", "us", "our") operates the Peaches' Guide to the Hayduke Trail mobile application and the website hayduke.trailpeaches.com (collectively, "the Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.

1. Information We Collect

a) Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and a display name (optional). Your password is stored using one-way cryptographic hashing (bcrypt). We cannot see or recover your password.

b) User-Generated Content

Trail condition reports, water reports, and comments you submit, along with the date and associated waypoint.

c) Device & Usage Data

We collect minimal technical data necessary to operate the Service:

App version and platform (iOS/Android)
Crash reports (if you opt in via your device settings)
API request logs (IP address, timestamp, endpoint) retained for 30 days for security and debugging

d) Location Data

Your GPS location is processed entirely on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store your geographic location on our servers. Location data is used locally by the App to show your position on the map and calculate distances to nearby waypoints.

3. Information We Do NOT Collect

GPS location (stays on your device)
Contacts, photos, or other device data
Advertising identifiers or tracking pixels
Analytics from third-party SDKs (we do not use Google Analytics, Facebook SDK, or similar)

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties, except:

User Content: Trail reports and comments you submit are visible to other users of the Service. That is their purpose.
Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or governmental regulation.
Service providers: Our hosting provider (Google Cloud Platform) processes data on our behalf under standard data processing agreements.

5. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on servers located in the United States. We use encryption in transit (TLS), hashed passwords (bcrypt), and access controls to protect your data. However, no system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Data Retention

Account data: Retained until you request deletion.
User content: Retained indefinitely to maintain the usefulness of trail reports for future hikers, even if your account is deleted (content is disassociated from your identity).
API logs: Automatically deleted after 30 days.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access your personal data by contacting us
Correct inaccurate information via your account settings or by contacting us
Delete your account by emailing [email protected]. We will remove your account and disassociate your content within 30 days
Export your data by contacting us

California residents: Under the CCPA, you have additional rights including the right to know what personal information is collected and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Third-Party Services

The App downloads map tiles from public tile servers (USGS, OpenTopoMap). These services have their own privacy policies. The App does not send any personal information to these tile servers, only standard HTTP requests for map imagery.

If you purchase a subscription or the App through Apple App Store or Google Play Store, those platforms process your payment information under their own privacy policies.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted here with an updated "Last updated" date. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-app notification.
